Dr Jyoti Saroop

Dr. Saroop’s work focuses on reintegrating traditional Indian knowledge systems with modern cooperative frameworks. He believes that “Bharat’s growth lies in its villages” and champions sahkar (cooperation) as the foundation for sustainable, inclusive development.

Leadership at UAMMCL

As the founding director of UAMMCL since 2003, Dr. Saroop has architected large-scale cooperative initiatives including:

  • Unati Behan Model: A women-led rural enterprise platform for health, wellness, and D2C marketing.
  • Farm to Factory to Fork System: A decentralized supply chain linking farmers to consumers via primary and secondary processors.
  • Unati Green Mission: Bamboo agroforestry, drone-based seed dispersal, and catchment restoration in the Shivalik hills.
  • Project Prasadam & Arogya Sevak: Health, nutrition, and wellness delivery powered by AI, Ayurveda, and community outreach.

  • Sustainable livestock and aromatic crop farming (ICAR, World Bank NAIP, PSCST)
  • Biofuel research using Pongamia pinnata in Ludhiana
  • Cultivation and value addition of natural bioresources in Hoshiarpur and Talwara
  • Herbal resource-based livelihood projects for women in the Shivalik hills

  • Consultant for the Department of Horticulture, Punjab under Rastriya Sam Vikas Yojana
  • Local NGO Partner with the World Bank Watershed Development Project, supporting natural resource management and medicinal plant promotion in Punjab’s Kandi region

  • Research Associate at CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur, specializing in medicinal and aromatic plants
