Dr. Jyoti Saroop is a distinguished expert in sustainable agriculture, herbal biotechnology, and rural cooperative development. With a career spanning over two decades, he has led groundbreaking work in integrating traditional Indian knowledge systems with scientific innovation to uplift rural communities.
As the Founder and Director of The Unati Agri Allied and Marketing Multi State Cooperative Society Ltd. (UAMMCL), Dr. Saroop has pioneered a range of initiatives including the Unati Behan model for women-led enterprise, the Farm-to-Factory-to-Fork value chain, and climate resilience programs like bamboo agroforestry and drone-based seed dispersal.
Previously, he has served as Co-Project Investigator and consultant on several projects funded by the World Bank, ICAR, DBT, and the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, focusing on natural resource management, biofuel research, and medicinal plant development.
Dr. Saroop also co-chairs the Cooperative Task Force at PHDCCI, contributing to national strategies on cooperative reform and rural empowerment. His vision is deeply rooted in the principle of “Sahkar se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation)—transforming Bharat through inclusive, grassroots-led development.
2003 – Present
Founder & Director, Unati Agri Allied and Marketing Multi State Cooperative Society Ltd. Founded UAMMCL to develop cooperative-driven value chains in wellness, agriculture, and rural enterprise. Pioneered models like Unati Behan, Farm-to-Fork, Arogya Sevak, and bamboo-based climate initiatives.
2013 – 2016 Co-Project Investigator, Department of Biotechnology Demonstrated sustainable livelihood generation through bioresource-based farming in the Kandi belt of Punjab (under SARTHI program with PSCST, PAU).
2011 – 2014 Co-Project Investigator, PSCST Field trials of aromatic crop processing and cultivation in partnership with DBT consortium and Kelkar Research Centre, Mumbai.
2008 – 2012 Co-Project Investigator, ICAR & GADVASU (World Bank NAIP Project) Focused on livestock-based farming systems for livelihood security in Hoshiarpur.
2004 – 2007 Co-Project Investigator, Punjab State Council for Science & Technology Worked on value addition of bioresources in the Lower Shivalik hills under the Department of Biotechnology.
2004 – 2006 Consultant, Department of Horticulture, Punjab Supported SHG-based herbal unit development under the Rastriya Sam Vikas Yojana.
2003 – 2005 Local NGO Partner, World Bank Watershed Development Project Promoted medicinal and aromatic plant cultivation in Punjab’s Kandi region.
2003 Co-PI, DST/PSCST Worked on biofuel production using Pongamia pinnata in Ludhiana.
1999 – 2002 Research Associate, CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University Conducted research on medicinal and aromatic plants in Palampur.
